FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is each piece really handmade?
Yes. Every item on CIWU is handcrafted by independent pottery artists in Jingdezhen, China. No mass production — each piece has its own subtle variations that make it one-of-a-kind.
What does “handcrafted” mean for durability?
Handcrafted pottery is sturdy and made for daily use. Small variations in glaze, texture, and shape are features, not flaws — they’re what make each piece unique.
Is handmade pottery food-safe?
All our tableware and teaware is food-safe and lead-free. Each product page specifies whether it’s microwave and dishwasher safe.
How should I care for my pottery?
- Hand wash recommended for longevity
- Avoid sudden temperature changes (don’t take from fridge to hot oven)
- Ceramic jewelry: remove before swimming or showering

What is wabi-sabi?
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and authenticity. It’s the soul behind every piece we curate — the slight asymmetry, the unexpected glaze, the mark of the maker’s hand.
